Tree Surveys in West Sussex - Brighton, Crawley & more

Looking for a tree surveyor?

This glorious county is home to landmarks such as Arundel Castle, Wakehurst and Petworth House. We serve towns and cities such as Brighton, Crawley, Chichester, Worthing, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Horsham and surrounding areas.

Tree surveys are sometimes required to keep you legally covered, to keep you and others safe, to meet the requests of your mortgage lender, or to move development planning through the application process. The consequence of ignoring potentially dangerous trees can be life-threatening, and potentially very costly. Yikes!

If you're based in West Sussex, rest assured that a tree surveyor is right here waiting for you.

Types of Survey

Different situations require different types of tree surveys. Here's what's on offer:

Tree Condition Surveys

A tree condition survey assesses the trees in a given area in terms of the safety issues they may present, as well as the health of the trees themselves. These reports are primarily requested by people looking to address health and safety risks posed by trees to protect themselves, others, infrastructure and other assets. Click here to read more about obtaining a tree condition survey.

BS5837 Tree Surveys

Also known as tree surveys for planning, a BS5837 tree survey is typically requested by homeowners or construction companies when planning applications are submitted for building developments and property extensions. The area is assessed and recommendations are provided on how best to proceed with the planned construction whilst considering the nearby trees. Click here to read more about obtaining a BS5837 survey.

Mortgage Tree Reports

A pre-purchase tree survey - often referred to as a mortgage tree report - is requested by home buyers who have been told by their mortgage lender or insurer that they must have the survey carried out for their mortgage application to progress. The report outlines potential risks to property and people from hazards such as falling branches, and provides recommendations to rectify these hazards. Click here to read more about obtaining a mortgage tree report.

Ecological Surveys

An ecological report into a specified area's wildlife is often requested alongside a BS5837 survey to ascertain what impact a development may have on nearby habitats. However, you don't have to be submitting development plans to have an ecological survey carried out. The survey takes into account the endangered species that reside in the area, and provides recommendations on how to protect them. Click here to read more about obtaining an ecological survey.

The Process

Never had a tree survey? Not sure how it works? It's not nice being in the dark about these things, so here's what you can expect.

1. Enquiry

You can get in touch a few ways: call us on 01980 623015, email us at info@bawdentreecare.co.uk, click the Facebook Messenger icon at the bottom-right of this page, or fill out the enquiry form at the bottom of this page. So many options! We do spoil you. Whichever way you choose to get in touch, our Tree Care Manager, Adam, will be there to help get the process started.

2. Preparation

Next, we need all the information we can get about the survey site. In some cases, this might mean popping on over to visit the site prior to the survey, whilst in other cases, comprehensive site plans, maps and images will do the trick. Don't worry, we'll keep you in the loop about everything we need.

3. The Survey

Now for the big moment! Our surveyor will visit the site and complete the survey. This is usually completed from the ground, but sometimes an aerial inspection is required. Depending on access, you may or may not need to be present for the survey.

4. The Report

How soon you receive your tree report is dependent on factors such as the size of the survey. When you do receive the report, it will land directly in your email inbox. The wonders of technology! What your report consists of will vary slightly depending on the type of survey, but generally speaking, your report will provide you with your surveyor's observations, then his recommendations. You will then be invoiced after receiving your report.

Tree Surveying FAQs

Got another query? Let's see if we can help you.

Q: Why should I choose you to survey my trees?

A: We have a few answers for you here! (Not to blow our own trumpet or anything...)

You can get both the survey and any subsequent works from one, single contractor.

You shouldn't have to go through the hassle of sourcing a tree surveyor, then having to find a separate contractor to undertake the report's recommended tree works. You'll get access to a knowledgeable surveyor and a team of top-notch tree surgeons all in one place. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Not only this, we can handle any Tree Preservation Order and conservation area applications so that you don't have to. Also, as licensed waste carriers, we always remove the waste after tree works (unless you don't want us to!).

Basically, what we're saying is that you don't have to worry about a thing - it's all in hand.

Works will never be recommended unnecessarily.

As arborists, tree conservation is high on our list of priorities. The appropriate action is always taken to eradicate potential hazards; however, where possible, we use various techniques to retain trees. With the ongoing climate crisis at the forefront of everyone's minds, we believe this is a really important factor in our work.

We don't miss a beat.

It is vital that nothing is missed during your survey to ensure the safety of you and your family, the public, staff, and other infrastructure and assets. Not only do we possess a nice handful of accreditations for your peace of mind - but we are also trusted by many big names such as Wiltshire Council, Help for Heroes and Serco.

Q: How much does a tree survey cost?

A: The cost of an arboricultural report varies greatly depending on the type of survey and the size of the site. Our surveys start from £200+VAT for the smallest, most basic survey. To obtain an accurate quote that suits your specific circumstances, please fill out the enquiry form at the bottom of the page.

Q: How accurate are your tree surveys?

A: The latest software from Pear Technology is loaded to hand-held GPS devices to produce digital drawings and maps that suit your individual requirements. Not only has investment in this technology increased our onsite productivity, but it also allows us to plot trees accurately and efficiently. With years of experience and maintained training such as the Level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture and Professional Tree Inspector (PTI) course, you can rest assured that your survey will be as accurate as possible.
