Paul has been working in the Arboriculture industry for 9 years and joined Bawden Tree Care as a climber in 2019. Throughout his time with the company, he has progressed through several positions and is currently the Arboricultural Operations Manager for the tree team. He is responsible for the day-to-day running of the teams and the work they're carrying out. Behind the scenes, he manages the tree team assets, ensures health and safety compliance, conducts LOLER inspections and services 2 stroke equipment. Despite being the Operations Manager, Paul is still an active climber, MEWP operator and doesn't mind a day of dragging brush.
The arboricultural industry came to Paul later in life, after he had served 25 years in the British Army. During his military career, he deployed to Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Serving the majority of his career in bomb disposal, he also spent time as a humanitarian deminer and clearance operative in Iraq after leaving the military. Next, he worked with Babcock International, teaching the military basic chainsaw skills, which allowed him to utilise the teaching and mentoring skills he gained in the military.
The main asset which he brings to the company is his wealth of knowledge and experience, which he passes on to other members of the team. He plans, organises and instructs our quarterly training days, but this is not where his tuition ends. Paul's on-site leadership style allows for the team to gain knowledge, experience and confidence.
Outside of work, Paul likes to spend quality time with his family and can often be found exploring the hills of North Wales with his Son. When he can find the time, he is also an avid stone carver and travels to Portland to create sculptures out of Portland Stone. Woodworking is another creative outlet which he undertakes on the weekend and enjoys turning items on a lathe which would've otherwise ended up in the log pile.
