Steve joined Bawden Tree Care in 2025 as Manager, continuing his career of over 30 years in Arboriculture. He is responsible for all staff employed in the tree care department, as well as and management, quoting and tendering for works, contract management and liaising with customers and clients. He also undertakes some surveys and consultancy for Bawden Tree Care.
Steve has enjoyed a wide range of roles in the industry - initially working in forestry, Steve moved into arboriculture and has never looked back. He worked as a climber before establishing his own business; from there, he became a lecturer in arboriculture and forestry at Sparsholt College, teaching and training hundreds of students in preparation for their own careers. Steve has worked for Longleat Estate, where he wrote an Estate-wide tree safety policy and developed their tree survey and management.
Steve’s managerial experience and skills came to the fore as Arboricultural Manager for Southampton City Council, and later as a consultant managing a team of surveyors.
Whilst Steve admits his best climbing days are behind him, he has stayed current on practical arboriculture and has a keen eye for safety and quality on site, ensuring the highest standards are maintained. He also strives to remain current with wider technical and professional knowledge, enabling him to provide high level advice and guidance to clients
Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, walking and cycling.
